Service Description

Volunteer Fire Service Culture: Essential Strategies for Success Creating a fire department culture that emphasizes the health and safety of personnel is critical to protecting our nation’s responders and reducing deaths and injuries. The course, accompanied by the NVFC textbook Volunteer Fire Service Culture: Essential Strategies for Success is designed to train department members and leaders about key issues relating to health and safety and how to embrace healthy and safe practices in all areas of department operations and culture. Leadership for the Fire and Emergency Services Quality leadership is essential for the fire and emergency services to accomplish the mission and improve your department. This course examines leadership styles, qualities, ethics, and best practices to help your department function at a high level and avoid fire and emergency services leadership pitfalls. New retention research will also be discussed to help leaders understand retention concerns and identify solutions. About the Instructor David Lewis is an active member of the Odenton Volunteer Fire Company (Maryland), serving as a firefighter/EMT, Chief Officer, and Company President. He has delivered training programs and conference presentations across the U.S and is a recognized leader in promoting firefighter safety and wellness. As an emergency services educator, Mr. Lewis is able to apply his life experiences in an environment that shares with others and builds future leadership across the emergency services communities.
